1.90L students are slow-learners

NAGPUR: As 1.90 lakh students studying in primary classes between second and seventh were found to be slow learners. The shocking revelation was made in a special test conducted by the state education department (Nagpur division) in July, the results of which were out on Friday.

A total of 5,43,532 students had appeared for the special test for their previous classes held to identify slow learners. The results showed that 33.44% of students (1.90 lakh students) were identified as slow learners.

Slow learners failed to meet the competency level required of them to meet the standards set for the previous class they passed.

Deputy director of education Govind Nandede has issued directives to all the primary schools to conduct 60 days special classes for these slow learners, to be held every day before the regular classes begin.

Sources said of the six districts in the division, Chandrapur district tops the list with 41.74% slow learners', followed by Gadchiroli district — 38.95%, Nagpur city — 29.91%, Nagpur Municipal Corporation schools — 16.27%, Wardha — 21.92%, Bhandara — 37.52% and Gondia district — 34.57%.
