10 lakh people to take non-violence pledge in Nagpur on Oct 2

Nagpur: About ten lakh people from the city will take a pledge of non-violence on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

This was decided at a meeting here under the chairmanship of Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Vilas Muttemwar at the district collectorate.

Nagpur University Vice-Chancellor S N Pathan, his counterpart at Kalidas Sanskrit University Pankaj Chande, Divisional Commissioner Anand Limaye, Nagpur Improvement Trust Chairman Sanjay Mukherjee, Collector Praveen Darade, Police Commissioner Praveen Dixit, Additional Municipal Commissioner Atul Patne and South Nagpur MLA Dinanath Padole were present in the meeting, an official release said here today.

The meeting decided to celebrate the Non-Violence Day in a big way and make the orange city garbage free. Police were making efforts to make October 2 a `Zero Crime Day.'

A peace march will be taken out on the Gandhi Jayanti in which 20,000 students from 60 colleges will participate.

Vidarbha Economic Council President Vilas Kale, his counterpart at Vidarbha Industries Association Praveen Tapadia, former Minister Haribhau Naik and also took part in the meeting, the release added.
