We all have heard of solar Eclipse or lunar Eclipse but this is something new called Venus transit. Transit is when mercury or Venus comes between the earth and the sun. Venus transit is when venus will come in between the earth and the sun. This will leave a small shadow on the sun. It will be visible between 5.31am to 10.22am. It is not very prominent like solar eclipse but it is a rare phenomenon which has a pattern of 105.5, 8, 121.5 and 8 years making a basic cycle of 243 years.

The transit will be visible on 6th June 2012 and after this date those born 25 or 50 years from now can view it on on December 11, 2117 and December 8, 2125. Thus it is very special. Raman Science Centre, Nagpur has made arrangements for viewing the venus transit at their centre. Those interested can go and watch the transit through telescope fitted with special sun filters.

There are various things which needs to be kept in mind while viewing the venus transit. Please avoid viewing it through the normal X ray film, naked eye, Sunglasses, Polaroid glasses, telescope without certified sun filters and do not view the image in water.

You can view the venus transit with a telescope fitted with certified sun filters, welding glass no 14 or 16 and approved sun filters for direct viewing.

Enjoy the venus transit but do not harm your eyes.
