No water shortage next summer?

NAGPUR: Unlike in the past, citizens will not have to face any water shortage during next summer, thanks to Nagpur Municipal Corporation that has assured to augment water supply by additional 50 mld. However, for the time being, mayor Maya Iwnate has assured to restore regular water supply in the localities across the city only after November 5.

WICB asked to probe Samuels

Calcutta: The last has not been heard of the Marlon Samuels controversy vis-à-vis the Nagpur ODI earlier this year.

According to an ICC release on Wednesday, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has been instructed to investigate allegations of inappropriate activity by the right-handed batsman in the first of four ODIs, played at the VCA ground on January 21.

This was decided at the two-day ICC Board meeting in Dubai.

This wheat is inedible

NAGPUR: “We can’t eat this wheat,” declares 40-year-old Gautam Maroti Kalbande, a coolie in Amani village of Mahagon tehsil in Yavatmal district. “I had to spend a hundred rupees on medicines. My entire family fell ill after consuming it,” complains this landless labourer, who works at a civil supplies godown in Mahagaon.

So much so, Gautam says he and his family have now started eating Jowar instead of wheat. “Every one in my family complained of stomach aches. I am not alone. My entire village is complaning,” said Kalbande.

Sun-n-Sand to launch two new properties by 2008 end

Mumbai-based Sun-n-Sand hotel has announced a total investment of Rs 360 crore for two new properties - in Pune and Nagpur. Gulshan Arora, the group's vice president and general manager, revealing the details, said, "The 280-room Pune hotel will be built on an area of four acres with an investment of Rs 280 crore. With 14 suites and one presidential suite, this hotel will be the second Westin hotel in the country."

MAK group to launch new brand of hotels

MAK Hotels & Resorts, Hyderabad has announced the launch of a new brand of hotels called Blue Lotus. The brand will operate in budget, business, boutique and luxury segments. According to the chairman of the group, Murali Krishna Reddy, "We have a budget of Rs 300 crore for the next five years. We are primarily looking to build business class and budget hotels."

National Kirtan Festival in Nagpur

TO MARK THE 150th anniversary of 1857 freedom struggle, South Central cultural centre, Tatya Tope Nagar Nagrik Mandal, Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh and Vaidarbhiya Hari-kirtan Organisation are all set to organise a National Kirtan Festival for the year 2007. The festival, featuring India’s most prominent Nationalist Kirtankars, will be held in Nagpur from October 28 to November 3, 2007. The main subject of the fest would be the biographies of the freedom fighters of India.
