‘CR to have comprehensive security plan by March end’

Security arrangements are now central to railway’s priorities, hinted Soumya Raghvan, General Manager, Central Railway.

She was talking to the mediapersons during her first visit to Nagpur Division, on Tuesday. She said that apart from cleanliness and passenger amenities, security on board trains and station is her focus areas and by March end Central Railway will have a comprehensive security plan. The necessary equipment like hand held detectors, X-ray machines for baggage check, metal detectors, CCTVs, are procured to equip the Railway Protection Force (RPF), she further said. About expectations from budget, Raghvan said that the Central Railway has proposed increasing frequency of Nagpur-Pune train from 3 to 6 days. Hopefully the Railway Budget will accept our demand. Further Nagpur station has been included in list of 22 stations that will be developed with world class facilities. For Ajni, a proposal for Coaching Complex has been sent to Railway Board. The proposal of first phase, costing Rs 8.9 crores, if approved, will ease pressure on Nagpur Station and provide flexibility on train operations front, said Chief Operating Manager (CoM) Vinay Mittal. He said there are no proposal for terminal facilities at Ajni as it is just 1.4 km from Nagpur Station. Hence, Ajni is more or less part of Nagpur Station only. DRM Ashwani Kumar Kapoor, ADRM Keshao Somkuwar and Principal HoDs from Central Railway Headquarters and Branch Officer from Nagpur Division were also present at the press conference.
