Nagpur: Under a project started by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, the state education department has provided internet connections to all schools in the Nagpur division.
Govind Nandede, Deputy Director (Education), Nagpur division said, "The department has directed schools to provide internet accessibility to students of Class VIII, IX and X. Schools have been guided to ensure that students are acquainted with internet browsing, using search engines and blogging before net connectivity is provided".
As per the directives, schools have to ensure that the given facilities are not misused by students. Students will be allowed to access the facility only after getting permission from a teacher. All computers should have the latest anti-virus software and the usage by students should be recorded in a log book, it further said.
All high school students have been asked to create their personal e-mail IDs.
Computers with internet facility should be installed only in the school computer lab, said Nandede.
"No other information, videos or software should be downloaded other than those needed for academic and administrative purposes. Schools must take measures to avoid access to objectionable websites", Nandede added.
It will be mandatory for students to undergo training in accessing necessary data from the internet, including exam results and filing on-line applications.
