NAGPUR: The Bombay high court's Nagpur bench on Monday slapped a fine of Rs 2,500 each on deputy director of education in Nagpur division and education officer (secondary) for failing to comply with the court's directives.
The petition of Indian Progressive Education Society was listed for hearing before a division bench of justice Dilip Sinha and justice P B Varale. According to the petitioner, there was dispute in shifting Uday High School in Bhankheda to Nagpur. The court in its orders on June 21 last year had directed the education department to decide on shifting of the school after parleys with the concerned bodies. The court also asked the department not give permission to open the school unless it is permitted by the state government.
Nonetheless, on July 23, 2007, the education department allegedly defying the court orders permitted the school management to shift the school to a new location.
The government after much hue and cry had cancelled the department's permission to shift the school. The petitioner claimed despite government's prohibition on shifting the school, education department officials ignored the orders and took no action on stopping shifting the school. The petitioner contended that the department officials failed to comply with the norms and action should be taken against them.
