NAGPUR: The centralised admission procedure (CAP) was disrupted for sometime on Tuesday by activists allegedly belonging to a prominent political outfit. According to sources, around 50 activists stormed the Dhanwate National College premises and threatened the officials of Centralised Admission Committee (CAC) of Nagpur's education department.
The CAC on Tuesday published the final allotment list of 1,254 candidates who were allotted colleges, including some new ones after their complaints were received. Some of the seats were exchanged, while some vacant seats were also filled in. The list was also released on the CAC's website www.cacstdxingp.org. It was also displayed at all the colleges. Out of 1,254 candidates, 921 were given alternative colleges after lodging complaints, while 333 were new admissions.
Sources added that the activists demanded immediate release of their preference list. Ironically, most of them had come with letters of MPs, MLAs and other political bigwigs, and demanded instant admission to the standard XI. Not a single one of them had filled up the admission forms. When CAC officials asked about acknowledgement of application forms, the party activists presented them the letters of bigwigs. It was only after police intervened, the activists left the place, sources informed.
As many as 56 new junior colleges, 30 of which are in Nagpur, were accorded permission by the state government to run their classes from this year. Additionally, the government on July 25 has given its nod to 16 new colleges taking a tally of new colleges to 72.
