NAGPUR: Five days after the TOI published a report about 'Dark Age' in classrooms at Nagpur University's main library at Ramdaspeth, the officials are targeting innocent students and blaming them for leaking information to the media.
The students, on the condition of anonymity, told TOI that the university library officials, including head of department PD Nimsarkar are allegedly threatening them with dire consequences, including rusticating them from classes. Even the teachers have been warned of dire consequences if they failed to reveal the names of students who allegedly leaked information to the media.
According to the students, who are attending classes under constant apprehension and fear, Nimsarkar allegedly summoned them at his chamber and put pressure on them to reveal the names of those who leaked the report to the media.
However, Nimsarkar categorically denied the allegations stating that he never threatened any student or teacher. "I am there for the service of the students. It's my responsibility to look after their welfare. If we start rusticating students, who will come to us for studying? The allegations levelled by some students are absurd and absolutely baseless," he said.
"After the complaints, I have not only provided new classrooms to the students but also bought new emergency lamps with my money to tide over the load-shedding," says Nimsarkar. Vice chancellor SN Pathan refused to comment on the issue.
