Ministers and legislators from Vidarbha meet Governor

Cutting across party lines, legislators from the Nagpur division of Vidarbha today met Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir and sought release of unutilised funds from the Amravati region for irrigartion projects in the division.

The 18-member delegation, including Ministers, met Jamir at Raj Bhavan here.

They requested the Governor to use his special powers under the Constitution to allow the unutilised funds, from out of those allotted for irrigation projects in the Amravati region, to be spent on irrigation projects in the Nagpur region without adversely affecting the former ones.

The lawmakers pointed out that although the irrigation backlog of Amravati region was huge, the region cannot utilise the entire amount of funds allotted to it. Therefore, a large amount of funds remained unutilised every year.

As against this, the ongoing projects in Nagpur division required more funds than the actual allotment, they noted.

The team was led by Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Pramod Shende. Other members were Ministers Satish Chaturvedi, Anil Deshmukh, Anees Ahmed and MLAs and MLCs from the Nagpur region.

Jamir told the delegation that his office had already taken up the issue with the Chief Minister's Office and that he would take appropriate action in the matter after ascertaining the views of the Chief Minister.
