Nagpur govt hospital to get super speciality status

Nagpur: In a positive development closer to the upgradation of Government Medical College and Hospital in city, the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare has sought a detailed assessment report from the Maharashtra government in a prescribed format, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, in a letter to Union Minister for New and Renewable energy Vilas Muttemwar, has informed that government of India was considering upgradation of GMC, Nagpur into superspeciality hospital and asked him (Muttemwar) to expedite the matter with Maharashtra government.

Ramadoss in his letter to Muttemwar, who is a local MP, has appreciated the efforts of Muttemwar.
The Union Minister said "I appreciate your tenacity and deep concern for people of Vidarbha region since you have dedicatedly pursued this matter".

Muttemwar told PTI that under PMSSY scheme, Centre proposed to incure one time capital expenditure for upgradation of this hospital up to a maximum of RS 120 crore which include Rs 20 crore from Maharashtra government.

He met Ramadoss on June 10 and thanked him and requested for early implementation. He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi.
