Nagpur Municipal Corporation failed Parking Plan

NMC has failed to sort out parking problems till 2011, though the move to solve the problem was taken in June 2007 by paying crores of rupees to L&T Consulting Engineers Ltd to prepare master plan for transport system of Nagpur City 2031.

Number of vehicles has increased so they need more space for parking. On failure to provide them space, vehicles are seen parked in No Parking zones. Heavily crowded places need parking space so that the roads are not cluttered with unevenly parked vehicles, and the vehicle owner not heavily charged.

The consultants recommended 18 off-street parking zones in different parts of Nagpur, including six at Central Avenue , one near Gangabai Ghat, NMC school ground at Dr Munje Square, strip of land outside Patwardhan ground (near Yeshwant stadium), existing off-street parking on Wardha road at the foot of Gowari flyover near Rahate Colony.

The consultants asked NMC to charge for parking near commercial complexes. This will help increased space for moving traffic.

I have seen that the road where Barbecue is situated in Sadar, remains jammed all the time due to double parking of cars or parking in “No Parking zones” which is very trouble some. NMC should come out with plans to create a parking zone near by to control the wrong parking of cars and motorcycles.

A lot of accidents happen due to parking in Prohibited areas at night due to reduced visibility. A solid plan needs to be choked out and implemented on road not just on paper to solve problems of growing traffic.
