New commissioner gets cracking, first on his agenda is traffic problemPune, July 21 Says nothing decided yet on scarves ban Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh is serious about solving the city’s traffic woes. If Singh has his way, Pune roads will be much better in the days to come. He intends to convene a meeting with traffic officials to chalk out a plan of action for tackling the traffic situation in Pune. “I will be holding a meeting with the traffic officials tomorrow (Tuesday). While off-hand, it would be difficult to suggest measures to counter the traffic problem in Pune, the meeting will be able to give a clearer picture about what immediate measures can be taken to improve the traffic situation in the city. However, the citizens can rest assured that Pune will drastically improve after the measures are implemented,” Singh said. Singh, who had announced his intention to bring discipline on Pune’s roads, stressed that based on inputs from all his officers, he would be deciding on the measures to counter the traffic problems in the city. Asked about his plans to counter land mafia in the city, he said that these were early days yet. Shrugging off the controversy being raked up over his views on scarves worn by women riding two-wheelers in the city, Singh said that although his measure to ban scarves during his earlier tenure in Nagpur initially invited protests, it was successfully implemented. “However, while some sections of the media are reporting about the proposed ban, nothing has been decided yet,” he informed. |
