Gomeda, Mutane clinch Nagpur International Marathon titles
Nagpur, Jan 30 (PTI) Adugnga Tola Gomeda of Ethiopia became the fastest among men while Kenya's Agnes Karunge Mutane won the women's title in maiden Nagpur International Marathon here today.
Adugnga clocked 2.18.29 hours to cover 42.195 km in the full marathon category while Agnes took 1.13.33 hrs to run 21.097 km to win the half marathon.
Another Ethiopian Wellay Amare became the runners-up with a timing of 2.18.30 hrs, while Desdary Lucian Hombo of Kenya clocked 2.18.39 hrs to finish third in men's section.
Among women, India's Kavita Raut finished third, just behind Jain Muia of Kenya.
The race, which saw 18 events with various distances and was participated by 29 foreign athletes, was organised on the occasion of World Non-Violence Day.
Beijing Olympics' gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra flagged off the race and handed out the awards to the winners.
A total prize money of Rs 37 lakhs was distributed to the winners in various categories. PTI
