NAGPUR: In a positive step, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation that had already ensured that all of its 53,000 students have access to computer training, has now decided to provide ‘MS-CIT’ (Maharashtra State Certificate in Information Technology) course training to its primary teachers.
The NMC education committee chairman, Kailash Chute informed, “In first phase over 600 NMC primary teachers from total of 1,300, will participate in the computer training programme while rest will be given chance in next phase.”
“Recently, we issued notification asking primary teachers to join the programme which will be implemented under state government’s Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). Theses teachers have been asked to take admission in private computer training institutes recognised by state government for its MS-CIT courses,” he said.
The NMC will pay Rs 2,000 as fees for the course training, Chute said. State government under its SSA programme will allocate funds for teachers training programme, Chute added.
After being trained in MS-CIT course, we are planning to rope in these teachers in NMC’s mission to provide computer training to students, illiterate people and women self help group members, he added.
Recently in a bid to provide free computer education to its students NMC roped in education and learning solutions provider Everonn Systems India, Chennai and Computer Business Management (CBM), Mumbai for imparting computer education in NMC schools. The two companies will install over 1,500 computers in 220 schools which can also be used for providing practical training to primary teachers.
