Plea on illegalhoardings infinal stage
NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Thursday started final hearing of a petition demanding action against illegal hoardings, banners, welcome gates, publicity boards and cutouts of political leaders in Nagpur.
A division bench adjourned the hearing until Friday after hearing contention of Firdos Mirza, counsel for petitioners, and additional government pleader (AGP) Bharti Dangre. The arguments of NMC counsel CS Kaptan will be heard on Friday after which the case will be reserved for judgment. The petition was filed by Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti demanding action against illegal hoardings where state chief secretary, municipal commissioner, commissioner of police and district magistrate of Nagpur were made respondents.
Earlier, Mirza accused the corporation of not taking serious action against those erecting illegal hoardings. Just penalising them was not enough. He listed out various laws under which the offenders could be booked. The AGP also passed the buck on the civic body for not coming forward to lodge a first information report (FIR). She stated that the police machinery had taken a cognizance and was ready to take action against offenders provided the NMC filed a complaint.
During last hearing, the court had directed the civic body to evolve some procedure not only to punish the guilty to ensure that such activity is not repeated.
