Mumbai : The railway police on Monday recovered the missing files that deceased former deputy collector of Nagpur, Prabhakar Darbhe (74), was carrying at the time of his death at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). According to the railway police, the missing files were found at the spot where Darbhe had collapsed.
Police Inspector P Yeram of the railway police unit at CST said, “The waiting room, where Darbhe was found collapsed, was full of commuters. Owing to this, we could not trace his belongings. However, on Tuesday evening, we went through the CCTV footage and found the files in an unclaimed luggage.”
The files will now be sent to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) where Darbhe was serving as an officer on special duty. Darbhe had come to Mumbai to represent the NMC at a meeting pertaining to the dismissal of 106 NMC employees in 2002.
“After finding a Mantralaya pass in Darbhe’s pocket, we made enquiries and learnt that he had reached the Mantralaya on Friday afternoon. But Darbhe did not attend the meeting as he was feeling unwell. The security guards at the Mantralaya took him to the GT Hospital, where he was diagnosed with high fever,” said Yeram.
Darbhe, however, refused to get admitted and insisted on leaving. Subsequently, the Marine Drive police recorded his statement as a precautionary measure and a couple of officers had escorted him to the CST, where he spent his time from Friday to Monday morning. “The viscera has been sent to Kalina forensic laboratory for for analysis. The report has not come yet,” Yeram said.
