Son mortgaged property to save father

NAGPUR: It was a desperate attempt made by a son to ensure his father is not harmed by his captors. Mahesh Chouraghade was learnt to have
mortgaged his house and some other properties to collect Rs 1.10 lakh for
ransom to free his father Bhikaji, who was abducted from Itwari railway station in October. Though the case was initially supposed to have been registered at Lakadganj police station, the investigation was later handed over to Tehsil police.

Bhikaji, a blaster by profession, was heading to Nagpur to finalise a property deal. He withdrew Rs 40,000 from a bank in Tirodha in Gondia before boarding the train. He was supposed to make certain payments as an advance to buy a property. Accused Nizambhai, who had noticed Bhikaji withdrawing the amount, enquired the reason behind travelling with the amount. Bhikaji is learnt to have made the mistake of revealing his plans.

Nizambhai, allegedly informed his accomplices _ Chachha, Masoodbhai, Gaffurbhai and Vijay Thakur__ in the city with a plan to abduct Bhikaji. Accordingly, they abducted Bhikaji by luring him with a lucrative property deal. It was learnt that Bhikaji was taken to Mominpura and kept confined inside a shop. Nizambhai, allegedly made the demands of Rs 1.50 lakh to be paid to Chachha, issuing threats of dire consequences. The abductors also took away Rs 40,000 from Bhikaji's possession.

Meanwhile, Mahesh managed to collect the amount mortgaging the properties and freed his father. The family later decided to approach police.
