Yogita case: Cops stick to car claim
Nagpur:
The city police have refuted the claim that they had investigated the wrong car in connection with the death of seven-year-old Yogita Thakre. The girl’s family had alleged that the body was found in a vehicle purportedly owned by state BJP chief Nitin Gadkari.
The denial came during the hearing in the case before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday. The police submitted as evidence statements of the private doctor who had checked Yogita body after she was found in the car, two police guards and the driver of the car in which they claimed the body was found.
But the police description of the car does not match with that of Yogita’s family members. Yogita’s mother Vimal and sister Nisha had identified a white Honda car while the police claimed it was a Fiat Linea. The court observed there were inconsistencies in police records over the exact identity of the car and fixed the next hearing on July 1.
