The Pride Hotel, Nagpur has recently received 5 Star certification. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India issues a certificate of five star deluxe, five star, four star, three star two star or one star depending on the size of the room, the services, the facilities, the amenities provided by a hotel. Every hotel has to apply for a certification. The tourism Director then forms a committee with one person from tourism department ,New Delhi , one person from the State government , tourism ministry , one person from IATO(Indian Association of tour operators) , one representative from IATA(Indian Air Transport Association), one representative from Hotel and restaurant association(Western region), and the principal of IHM , Institute of Hotel Management, Mumbai .
The application has to be sent with all drawings, plans, licenses, permits and all statutory compliances as are listed in the application form. The committee visits the Hotel on a short notice for the Inspection and verifies each and every detail mentioned therein. They check the rooms, the restaurants, the kitchen, the cold storage, the garbage disposal system, the staff locker rooms, the staff toilets, the staff cafeteria, the service standards of the hotel, the grooming of the staff, the percentage of qualified staff who have Degrees or Diploma’s from hotel management Institute etc and then each member gives points. The reports of these inspections are then submitted to the Director of tourism, Government of India. The Directorate then decides the star category depending on how many points the Hotel gets. Out of 100, to be a five star one has to get 80 points minimum.
