NAGPUR: Lights, camera, action! The shot starts. A theatre guru sitting on a revolving chair, a cigar in hand, says to his disciple, "You must think twice before coming to me for learning acting and you must be ready for hard days ahead if you're really keen on learning—-" "Cut", the director interrupts even before the dialogue is complete.
This is not a set of any Hollywood film. It is set to happen in Nagpur as the Department of Mass Communication of Nagpur University readies the script of Nagpur's first ever English short film. Once complete, the art-film called ‘The Passionate Pinky' will be entered into various national and international film festivals.
Directed by Shailendra Bagde, ‘The Passionate Pinky' is a story of a renowned theatre guru named 'Carlos'. He once trained many youngsters who went on to become celebrities in the tinsel town. He has stopped training more believing that today's youngsters lack commitment and dedication needed for the job.
He is proved wrong by young girl 'Pinky' who convinces him to train her. Despite being a novice, Pinky manages to impress Carlos with her eagerness to learn and her dedication and shatters his believs about modern youngsters. Pinky proves to Carlos not only that young persons today as committed as their predecessors but can actually do better.
The one hour and ten minute long film revolves around these two characters and a friend of Carlos' named Reuben who always accompanies the central character. There are ten more characters putting in short appearances. The role of theatre guru 'Carlos' is being played by Vinod Indurkar, head of Department of Mass Communication as well as of Department of Fine Arts.
'Reuben' is being played by city-based Reuben Ray, who is associated with producing documentaries, serials and films.
"The film is an attempt to utilise resources at our department and give practical exposure to the students," Indurkar told TOI.
