City students, teachers welcome foreign varsities

NAGPUR: Names like Georgia Tech, Masachussets Institute of Technology or University of California Los Angeles were something that Indian students mostly dreamt of, and a few got to go to. However, now that the Union government has given a nod for foreign universities to open campuses in India, residents of the Orange City seem to be dreaming even bigger and bolder.

With the board examinations beginning next week, Class 10 and 12 students are a tense lot, busy with last-minute preparations. And the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) helpline is ringing non-stop, say counsellors attending to anxious parents and children.

“I am not nervous. I just have this one problem - I have been studying at night and end up sleeping through the morning. I will have to set my clock right over the next few days,” said Sneha Ramani, a Class 10 student.

Her mother Parvati has been talking to counsellors through the CBSE helpline number constantly.

Dr Shevgaonkar to be new Pune VC

MUMBAI: Technocrat-academician Dr Raghunath Kashinath Shevgaonkar was on Friday appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of University of Pune by Governor K Shankaranarayanan in his capacity as Chancellor of Universities of Maharashtra.

Maha minority students to have special ITI classes

Mumbai, Jan 27 (PTI) Maharashtra Government today decided to start special training classes for minority community students to increase their participation in mainstream education.
