Rotary’s Walkathon, an yearly event is being organized at Nagpur in association with Arneja Heart Institute on 3rd February 2013. Walking is a very good exercise to keep ourselves fit and healthy. Daily walks keeps diseases at bay and decreases hospital bills. This walkathon is an initiative by Rotary club of Nagpur to awaken nagpurians to live a healthy life by daily walking.

Nagpurians beware of Conjunctivitis

The onset of monsoon has brought it with showers or rains and diseases too. A lot of people are getting conjunctivitis and viral fever. Conjunctivitis spreads very fast and it causes redness and swelling of eyes. City doctors recommend not to move out with an infected eye to stop spread of disease and wear black glasses. Others should maintain proper hygiene and wash their eyes to prevent themselves from getting infected by the virus.

Enjoy the mud puddle, dance in rains but yes do take precautions so that you enjoy this monsoon and keep smiling the whole rainy season.

Reduce in number of patients visiting Government Medical College and Hospital

There has been a marked reduce in patients visiting Government Medical College and Hostel (GMCH) due to lack of basic amenities in hospital premises. There is lack of basic drugs, syringes, plasters and advanced surgical equipments. Patients face lots of problems due to lack of proper medicines.

People visit other hospitals rather than opting for GMCH as they feel more safe at the other place. Surgical dealers have stopped supplying goods to the hospital due to a big outstanding bill.

Quit smoking by National Tobacco Cessation quit line

National Tobacco Cessation quit line was launched last week to help people quit smoking. The helpline is combined effort of a tobacco cessation products manufacturer and the Tobacco Intervention Initiative (TII) centre of the Indian Dental Association (IDA). A team from Mumbai runs the helpline. It addresses queries in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and English. The people running the helpline helps addicts in combating tobacco cravings and reach suitable doctor associated with TII.

FDA officials destroyed artificially ripened mangoes

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials destroyed mangoes worth Rs 1 Lakh which were ripened by Calcium Carbide. The raid was conducted in santra Market. According to officials more raids will be conducted in coming days so that fruit sellers stop using chemicals for ripening of fruits.

Assistant commissioner (food) SB Naragude said that calcium carbide used for ripening fruits have severe health problems. The chemical changes the color of fruit from outside while the fruit is yet to ripen from inside.

Thalassemia awareness decreases cases of disease in the City

Thalassemia awareness which was started by Thalassemia Society of India (TSI) has yielded results. The cases of Thalassemia has reduced in the city. It is a disorder in which Red Blood Cells gets destroyed. The suffering person requires regular medicines for his survival.

A Thalassemia minor should not marry a Thalassemia minor or carrier of the disease as the couple has 25 % chances of bearing a child with the disease. The efforts carried out by city doctor has yielded results. Marriages should be conducted after doing blood test instead of matching horoscope.

Dairy owner arrested for feeding drugs to cattle at Nagpur

A dairy owner at Satranjipura was arrested in a raid by FDA (Food and Drug Administrators) officials and police for injecting drugs in cattle to increase production of milk. The drug is banned as it is harmful to animals.

The drug is used to ripen fruits and used in women during labor pains. The dairy owner used it as he was not happy with the income so he used injections to increase his profit.

Nagpur getting prepared to fight Listeriosis

Listeriosis is a disease which is caused by infection from a soil borne bacterium which can get inside the human body through food. This bacterium leads to death of many new born and unborn children. Indian doctors are not yet trained to diagnose the disease.
