Soon, designer nanomaterials on-demand

Washington, March 20 (ANI): A team of scientists has shown how it is possible to make designer nanomaterials on-demand.

The researchers, from Berkeley Lab's Molecular Foundry, in collaboration with a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, have shown how nanocomposites with desired properties can be designed and fabricated by first assembling nanocrystals and nanorods coated with short organic molecules, called ligands.

These ligands are then replaced with clusters of metal chalcogenides, such as copper sulfide.

Moon smash-up may have created new Jupiter ring

Washington, March 20 (ANI): An image taken by NASA's New Horizons spacecraft has indicated that Jupiter may have a new ring that was created by a smash between its moons.

According to a report in New Scientist, the possible ring appears as a faint streak near Jupiter's moon Himalia in the image.

The telescopic camera aboard the Pluto-bound probe snapped the ring in September 2006 as the craft was closing in on Jupiter in the lead-up to a close encounter with the planet the following February.

Foreign athletes gear up for Nagpur Marathon

NAGPUR: A group of East African athletes have arrived here to participate in the second edition of Nagpur International Marathon to be held on Sunday.

The 39 athletes from Kenya, Tanzania and Ethopia have promised to improve their timings in Nagpur, vice-president of Kenyan Athletic Federation Paul Mutwii told reporters here today.

The event has witnessed a record number of 90,000 entries, including 77,000 for 'Five-KM Ahinsa Doud' and 500 athletes in the main event of 42.195 km men's full marathon.
