According to a recently released report by Nagpur Municipal Corporation, there are total of 447 slums in and around Nagpur city.
According to the report only 287 are notified and rest 140 are non-notified slums. 71 % are in east Nagpur, while 29% are located on west part of the city. And estimated 8,58,983 people are living in these slums.
The “slum-mapping” excersise was carried out in all major cities of India in 2010 – 2011. The report also concludes that the people living in slums in the city mostly come from neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
