Kaundanyapur: Where Lord Krishna kidnapped Rukmini

Kaundanyapur holds an important places in India history. Kaundanyapur was known as Kundinapuri in Mahabharat period. It was the capital of Vidarbha and was ruled king named Bhima. It is located around 100 kms from Nagpur and 40 km from Amravati.

As per the mythological tales, Lord Kirshna came to kidnap Rukmini, the beautiful daughter of king Bhima in Kaundanyapur. And later married her at Madhavpur in Gujarat.

Some sources also mention that Lord Rama’s grandmother belonged to this place too.

Kaundanyapur was the gateway for travelers during the ancient times for traveling from North to Southern part of India. This ancient route is mentioned in Mahabharata.

At present, there is a temple dedicated to Vittal Rukmini on the banks of the river.

ISKCON is coming up with a large temple.

How to reach:

Kaundanyapur is located around 100 km from Nagpur in Amravati district. From Nagpur, proceed on Amravati road. Take left turn from Talegaon towards Arvi. From Arvi, take right and head straight fro 10 kms. The Rukmini temple is located on the banks of river wardha
