Nagpur see 57% Lok Sabha polling on Thursday April 10th

Nagpur witnessed 57.30% voting. This is an improvement since 2009, where the total voting percentage was 43.
Nagpur’s literacy rate is 89%, one of the highest in country. Considering this fact, the voting percentage should have been much higher. Nagpur had 33 candidates in foray including 21 independent candidates.
Prominent candidates were BJP’s Nitin Gadkari, sitting Congress MP Vilas Muttemwar, Dr Mohan Gaikwad of Bahujan Samaj Party and state convenor of Aam Aadmi Party Anjali Damania.

Maharashtra’s first IIIT to come in Nagpur
Nagpur will host Maharashtra’s first Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). The Institute is schedule to start from next academic year, and is planned to come on a 100 acre land near Kaladongri, off Wardha Road.
According to reports, The Cente will provide financial assitance of Rs 100 crores, where as state will invest Rs 35 crores. Rs 20 crore will be invested by IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). TCS has been roped by state government as a parter.
Nagpur University Hockey team qualified for Inter-University Tournament
Rashtra Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University Men’s Hockey team has qualified for the pretigious Inter University Hockey Tournament, which is scheduled to be held in November in Hyderabad. The team remained unbeaten in Sambalpur under the leadership of Ganesh Kawle.
Nagpur University has not been able to qualify for that past four years.
Nagpur to get National Law University in 2014
Maharashtra Cabinet has approved bill for the establishment of National Law University in Nagpur city. Demand to setup Law University in Nagpur has been long pending. Adv Anil Mardikar, the then President of High Court Bar Association (HCBA), was the first person to pitch the idea of having National Law University in Nagpur.
National Law University in Nagpur will be built at the cost of Rs 204 crores in 2 phases. For the first phase, Maharashtra Government has cleared Rs 7.20 crore.
