A new move by IMA and NMC to help hospitals gain NOC certificate

After fire breakout at Care Hospital and Kolkata based hospital it was made compulsory for hospitals to gain NOC certificate from fire department or their affiliation would be canceled. Indian Medical Association (IMA) is seeking help from NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) and Fire department to ensure every hospital is aware of the safety norms.

NOC from fire department compulsory for running private hospitals

Due to recent fire mishap at Care Hospital, Nagpur and a hospital in Kolkata now NOC from fire department is compulsory for running private hospitals.

Dr Milind Ganvir, deputy director for Health said that so far fire NOC was not compulsory for issuing licenses. The fire NOC is compulsory only when the nursing home building is fire storeyed and above.

Care Hospital does not fulfills norms for fire safety

A recent break out of fire at the Care hospital has revealed the truth of the hospital premises. It does not fulfills all the norms of fire safety guidelines. According to officials the hospital violates as many as 16 guidelines.

The fire department has given 3 days to the hospital authorities to reply or fire department will initiate action under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, which empowers the CFO (chief fire officer) to disconnect water and electric connections.

Patients saved as fire broke at Care hospital

Fifth floor of Care Hospital caught fire due to short circuit. There was total black out in the hospital at around 2 PM in the afternoon. Patients were shifted to the near by hospitals.

There was no major accidents. It took time to control the fire as the fire officials were late. Major mishap was averted.
