GMCH docs show light to eye patients

NAGPUR: To celebrate the 25th annual eye donation fortnight, doctors at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) organised a ` Free eye diagnosis and eye donation camp` at Wakilpeth. The aim was to raise awareness about the importance and need for eye donation, along with screening of the local population for eye-related problems.

About a week earlier, representatives of GMCH had spread the word about the camp with the help of local authorities. The camp was held on Sunday from 9am to 2pm at Swawlambi Matimandha School at Jaitala. It was free and open to all.

CBI probe on but NHAI to go ahead with highway deal

NEW DELHI: After a five-month deadlock, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is all set to sign the concession agreement of the controversy ridden Nagpur-Betul (120 km) highway project. The project, which came under CBI scanner, has now got the go-ahead for signing of the concession agreement after NHAI sought legal opinion in this case.

FM-III 1st phase to auction 160 stations

Having worked out a three-year staggered auctioning of 806 FM stations between 2011-2013 under phase-three policy of private FM radio, around 160 FM stations across 60 towns will be initially auctioned in the first year beginning January 2011.

No HC relief for man who shot at cops, gangster

MUMBAI: Ravindra Sawant's act of shooting at gangster Ashwin Naik and three police officers was an attempt at challenging the government writ, the Bombay high court said, while dismissing his plea for early release from prison. Sawant, who is serving a life term at Nagpur Central prison, had challenged the state's decision to keep him in jail for 30 years, including remissions (jail days credited for good conduct).

3 more H1N1 deaths take toll to 19

NAGPUR: The death of three more H1N1 positive women in the isolation ward of Government Medical College and Hospital on Thursday, has again underlined the higher susceptibility of women to the virus. Although all the three women died on Thursday, the hospital declared their death as H1N1 positive only on Friday after their reports were received from National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.
