Nagpur Airport receives special Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chairman’s Award for installation of new system called Indra. This system allows airport officials to connect with the aircraft. It increase the efficiency and reduces chances of mishaps and error by humans. The new system will connect aircraft to air traffic control (ATC) department and help it gain height if it is coming down to avoid collision in the air. It will save 1.28 crore litres of fuel every year.

Nagpur was chosen for the Indra project due to its central location. The airport guided movement of 650 aircraft’s that pass over from Nagpur. With the installation of Indra Nagpur is now connected to Bhopal and Hyderabad, & will soon be connected to Jharsuguda and Ahmedabad radars. It will also facilitate coverage up to Jaipur, Bangalore, Vishakhapatnam and Aurangabad.
