The day is celebrate by cleaning home, making rangolis and tying a Gudi in the right hand side of the home to bring peace and prosperity. The Gudi is made by tying a silk yellow cloth on a stick and then putting a kalash with Swastik mark on it. Then decorating the kalash with mango leaves and marigold flower garland. The Gudi is tied on the entrance after it is worshiped.

Meals such as Puran Pohi, Pooris, Jalebis, basunti and Shrikhand are prepared at home to celebrate the new year. The new year is welcomed with full fun and frolic.
