No Plaster of Paris idols this festive season

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is taking great initiatives to stop pollution of water bodies this festive season by implementing a ban on Plaster of Paris (POP) idols. It has held a meetings with mandals and idol makers. Mandals are requested not to purchase idols made of plaster of paris. Idol makers are asked to make idols of clay and not mix pop with clay. NMC has also asked the general public to lend their support for their success. Though the ban on pop idols had been voiced earlier but it has been implemented now.

NMC is holding these meetings 2 months before Ganesh Puja so that idol makers don’t face poor selling due to ban on pop idols.

Police Chief, Ankush Dhan Vijay has said that there should be no loud music after 10 PM at night according to supreme court orders and no consumption of liquor during installation and immersion process. The festival should be celebrated with pleasure and should not create havoc. Roads should not be blocked by puja pandals to ensure smooth flow of traffic on roads.

NMC has requested Nagpurians to plant trees and help them take the “Green City Dream City” campaign forward.
