National Environment Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur is organizing International workshop on Mitigating effects of Geogenic Contaminants.

Objectives :
– Deliberate on recent findings indicating an increased geographical extent of geogenic contaminants particularly Fluoride, iron, selenium etc

– Discuss possible health impacts of geogenic contaminants and identify stress parameters
– Devise strategy for implementing approaches such as Quantitative Chemical Risk Assessment (QCRA) and health based targets
– Identify Technological interventions to minimize geogenic contaminants

Scrap worth crores is waiting to be disposed off

Scrap worth rupees 2-3 crores is waiting to be disposed off. NMC ( Nagpur Municipal Corporation) which is financially crunched will make lots of money by selling off this scrap.

The scarp comes from heavy machinery and iron used in various departments like sanitation, electrical, and hospitals. Scrap had been sold 12 years ago since then no action has been taken to clear the scrap. The issue is still pending as no one wants to get their hands into it. Lots of meetings and committees had been formed but to no vail as the scarp worth crores is still lying.
