Encroachments killing Nagpur – Kalamna double line railway project

The divisional railway manager (DRM) of South East Central Railway (SECR), SL verma expressed his helplessness in implementing the Rs 21 crore double line project between nagpur and kalamna due to encroachments in the sanctioned land.

He said that the project was approved in the year 2007 -2008 but could not be implemented due to encroachments in Dobi nagar slums. He has asked for support from the Civil administration of Nagpur to remove the encroachments so that the project can take off.

The present situation is grave as one line passes through Itwari and other through Pachpaoli causing tremendous congestion. The problem is increased due to rescheduling of trains from Howrah. With the arrival of new lines the problem will be solved. He said though the project cost has increased by 20 % he is keen to start the project to solve the problem.

SL Sharma said that 7 stations in the division are being developed as model stations. Of these, work on Ramtek has been completed while progress is on to develop rest six stations – Kamptee, Chhindwara, Dongargarh, Umred, Rajnandgaon and Gondia.
