At the age of 22, Sheetal Gangadhar Gharat has become the youngest corporator if Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) from Garoba Maidan ward.
Sheetal Gangadhar Gharat was born on September 22, 1989. She is pursuing M.Ed from Vasantrao Shikshan Mahavidyalaya. She was aiming to become a lecturer after completing her eduction.
Sheetal was very happy to know that she is the youngest ever. “I am very happy to become a corporator and would make efforts for the development of my ward. It is also a matter of privilege to hear that I am a youngest among 145 corporators,” she said.
A health program conducted at Nagpur Municipal Corporation schools have shown that some students have night blindness, vitamin A deficiency and visual impairment. The school authorities claims they give vitamin A syrup to students for fighting vitamin A deficiency.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has procured four Royal Enfield bikes equipped with Compressed air foam units to fight fire in congested places where mobility is restricted by heavy traffic. It will help in fighting small fire like transformer or vehicle fire.
The bike will carry two firemen dressed in official clothes. The vehicle will have a siren which will sound like fire tenders siren. This will increase their probability of extinguishing fire at places where the big fire tender takes time to reach while passing through city roads.
The roads built by Nagpur Municipal Corporation are of sub standard quality. The material is coming off and spreading on the entire road. Completed work on South Ambazari road from Deekshabhoomi to Mate square and Mate square to Hingna T-Point raised question mark on the work done by NMC.
Are they just wasting money or doing temporary work to avoid potholes and again invest money in it. The work is being inspected and further construction of roads have been stopped.
There is a big twist in the tale at NMC elections as MBA’s, Doctors, Engineers and lawyers are now contesting the election. They feel they can bring changes around their locality and Nagpur by being a part of the system and not running away from it. They want to win election and fight against corruption, have a vision to take Nagpur to the next level by bringing funds for various development projects.
2012 is going to make history.
NMC is finding it difficult to provide birth and death certificates on time. They claim the problem is due to server problem of e-Governance system. They will not be able to do their regular work till the server is restored and brought back to order, till then the officials are enjoying songs from different Radio stations.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation election is being organized on Tuesday, 24th January 2012.
Lets wait and watch who wins. Just winning is not important, doing good work after the election is also very important. Hope the coming person fulfills all expectations of nagpurians and stands tall in all adversities.
NMC is employing more than 8000 sweepers to keep the city clean, more than 400 small and big trucks to pick up garbage from our doorstep, street and chowk.
