Maharashtra clears ways for Nagpur Metro Rail project

Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved gave nod to the Sitabuldi – Airport – Butibori Nagpur Metro railway project.

During the 2011 Winter Session in Nagpur, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan announced to support the Metro Rail project in Nagpur. Union Minister Kamal Nath assured that Nagpur will have its Metro soon.

On Wednesday, while approving the Pune Metro Rail, the Maharahstra cabinet also cleared way for Nagpur’s Metro Project. Maharahstra cabinet has asked for detailed report.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation to take action against illegal construction in the city

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is geared up to take stern measures against all illegal and unauthorized constructions in the city along with old and weak buildings. After inspection of the building, notice will be issued to the owners and they will have to pull down the unauthorized structure within a time period. If the person does not follows the rules he will be fined and imprisoned. This is being done for safety of nagpurians so that no more death occurs due to collapse of weak buildings.

NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) schools where students should receive education has been converted in to cattle sheds and a place for fabrication. School is a place for teachers and students but it seems lack of proper studying facilities have led to the conversion of these schools in to a place for animals. The matter came to forefront when the inspection was carried by Dayashankar Tiwari. NMC’s Tukaram Lanjewar Vidyalaya at Gaddigodam had been converted into a cattle shed as Tiwari found lots of animals tied inside the premises.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation to construct 200 more bus shelters in the city

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is working very hard to make the conveyance system in the city good by constructing more bus shelters, where the passengers waiting for bus can take rest and sit comfortably. Now 190 bus shelters are fully operational in the city. The new shelters will be constructed on roads which lacks them or where two shelters have a gap of more than 500 meters. According to norms there should be a bus shelter every 200- 500 meters of road length.

Illegal structures which disrupts smooth flow of traffic will be demolished. NMC (Nagpur Municipal Corporation) has fined shopkeepers in Dharampeth area for using plastic bags less than 50 microns in size. Though the government has passed the law but still there are plenty of shopkeepers who use plastic bags which has thickness less than 50 microns. Plastic bags with less thickness clogs drains and nullahs hence leading to overflow of water during the rainy season. NMC is carrying out this drive now to help smooth flow of water in drains and rivers during monsoon.

Many people have the bad habit of spitting here and there after eating Paan or Gutka. Sometimes these spits fall on other people and cause inconvenience to others. It is a very unhealthy habit to throw anything on the road. People have the habit of throwing potato chips packet, packaged drinking water bottles and biscuits packet on the road after consumption.

To stop corruption and increase revenue from octroi collection Nagpur Municipal corporation (NMC) is planning to install X-ray machines at Octroi check posts i.e all entry points into the city. The scanners will help officials collect the Octroi accurately from loaded trucks and auto rickshaws. No one will be able to fool the octroi officials. In the current situation to check the load of covered vehicles the officials had to tap the vehicle and check the pressure of shock absorbers to calculate octroi. Many vehicles paid less octroi as the system is not very efficient.
